Lets Make: A Weather Station

This is sort of a tutorial that I put together to explain much as I can about the process of making a simple realtime weather station with Arduino and some web technologies. In this project, I will be attempting to get sensor data from a DHT11 temperature, Humidity sensor and displaying it in a nice web user interface. For the back-end of the system, I will be using a Javascript web framework called Express.

How its made: Talking Cactus

Story This is a mini project I made for fun. It was done at the beginning of this year and I thought I should share the story behind the making of this. It’s a cactus that tweet when it needs water :P. The idea started as an inspired project. I was watching a ted talk called How Arduino is open-sourcing imagination. The video is shown below. The guy who gave the speech showed a plant which is connected to an Arduino.

Writing thaana on lcd displays

So for the past few weeks, I have been doing bit of research and digging on how to write Dhivehi thaana to a 16*2 LCD. What I found out is that it’s not hard to do it. So the thing I had to do was to assign custom byte codes that match the letters in the Dhivehi thaana. So the easiest way to think about this was making a 5 * 8 squares like a table.

How to fix Nodemcu flash issue

Here is a quick fix for the flashing issue in node mcu - Install python 2.7 or 3 download here  - Install pyserial download here  - Download to the esptool.py from here save it in the python installation folder - Download nodemcu_latest.bin from here and save it in the python installation folder - Edit esptool.py so that: ESP_RAM_BLOCK = 0x180 ESP_FLASH_BLOCK = 0x40
- Open cmd and go to the python folder and type in this (change the COM7 to whatever your FTDI is)
